We're looking for a Communications and Social Media Intern to join our San Francisco team this summer to assist in managing Rustic Pathways’ communications and social media content. The internship will run from June 4 to August 24th. You will be expected to work in our SF office around 15-20 hours a week. The specific dates of the internship may be flexible depending on your academic calendar or other circumstances.
Our office is casual, but we take our work seriously. If you're a proactive critical thinker who loves writing and thrives in a fast-paced collaborative team environment, we want you to join our team this summer and help us take our communications materials to the next level! As an intern you'll have the chance to join weekly Marketing Team meetings, share your ideas during high-level brainstorming and strategy sessions, meet with leaders from all areas of Rustic Pathways, and receive professional development and mentorship that continues long after your internship ends.
Community management of social media accounts including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. This includes responding to comments and questions and engaging with our audience to build strong relationships
Create engaging content for all platforms. This includes writing post captions, choosing photos, curating articles, and developing targeted campaigns. All content should attract attention, generate interest in Rustic Pathways, and be easily share
Manage a content calendar for all platforms
Report on current trends in social media in the educational travel industry and among teenagers and young adults
Write copy and choose photos for ads on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
Report on weekly ad performance across all three platforms

Manage Rustic Pathways listings on referral sites
Draft and copy edit other Rustic Pathways communications materials
What Success Looks Like to Us
You will report directly to the Social Media Coordinator who will evaluate your performance on the following:
Hitting deadlines and ability to manage time and workflow
Innovating in line with our brand
Working across team member that may not be in the same office space
Rapid response to questions and comments on our network
Meticulous copy editing and formatting (no typos left behind!)
Working proactively and independently
Being an editorial asset to the marketing team
All applicants must be at least 18 years old
Must have completed a minimum of two years worth of college or a post-high school program. journalism, media, communications, business and/or marketing major preferred.
Demonstrated editorial or publishing experience.
Exceptional writing skills with experience producing blogs, articles, newsletters, etc. Strong understanding of social media platforms and how to create brand awareness.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Active on social media sites
Attentive to detail
Ability to work independently and be proactive
Strong time management and organizational skills
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Fluency in English required; conversation & competency skills in another language a plus
Personal experience in international travel (as student, leader, or for pleasure)
Understands the value of experiential education and travel for high school students
Sound knowledge of domestic and international travel trends
Ability to adapt tone and voice
Meticulous, creative, analytical, and solution-oriented
Strongly preferred: Photoshop, InDesign, WordPress, or basic video editing skills
Strongly preferred: Rustic Pathways alumnus
Must be able to come in to our office in the Inner Sunset, San Francisco, CA (near Ninth and Irving Muni stop) two to three times a week.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must provide own transportation to/from work.
Must provide own housing.
Must provide personal computer and smart phone.
$15 per hour.
